A Visit to Barnes & Noble (Plus Romance in Color's Review of BACKCOUNTRY COVER-UP)

Those who know me know that I love a visit to the bookstore! I recently stepped away from the computer to visit my local Barnes & Noble and snap a few pics with BACKCOUNTRY COVER-UP. Keep reading to check out some of my fellow Harlequin author friends' books that I spotted, and for Romance in Color's review of BACKCOUNTRY COVER-UP!

Who else gets a rush of excitement the moment they step inside a bookstore? I grew up with parents who love to read, and regular visits to bookstores, libraries and book fairs were part of our normal routine. My mother always said, "Books are your friend," and I took that to heart. Wherever I was, a stack of books wasn't too far away.

My passion for reading stayed with me over the years. Despite my hectic writing schedule, I try and read as much as I can. My writer friends and I talk about how relaxing books can be, and whenever we're in need of a break, we turn to novels for the perfect escape.

Reading also helps alleviate writer's block, and it's my fellow Harlequin authors who I oftentimes look to for motivation. It's exciting to see their books on the shelves alongside mine, and during my visit to Barnes & Noble, I spotted several, including:

A HERO AND HIS DOG by Carrie Nichols
He came to find his dog. Has he also found a reason to stay?

She'd fled the past. Would she stay for her future?

One dance. One kiss. One unexpected twist...

A body has washed ashore, along with her past...

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚

Wayne Jordan of Romance in Color gave BACKCOUNTRY COVER-UP the most wonderful, rated "A" review! Wayne is a huge fan of romance books and has been a much-appreciated supporter of mine. Here are his thoughts on my latest Intrigue:

"With BACKCOUNTRY COVER-UP, Denise N. Wheatley pens the perfect addition to her growing portfolio of excellent romantic suspense. When Todd Jacobson’s sister is murdered, he teams up with private investigator, Elle Scott, to investigate the murder. The story takes readers on a thrilling ride into the dubious world of pyramid schemes.

I enjoyed everything about this latest romantic suspense by Ms. Wheatley. It is fast paced, gripping and has the right amount of romance to satisfy fans of the genre. I liked the protagonists, Todd and Elle, from the beginning and enjoyed the slow burn of heat between them which did not distract from their desire to find the truth. From the beginning they are perfectly matched and driven, their determination and skills evenly matched. However, the truth does not come easy and the twists and turns along the way are realistic and make it difficult to find out the identity of the killer. To be honest, I was surprised when the killer is revealed.

The secondary characters, mainly suspects, are a varied bunch and contribute to the suspense of the story. Sloane is cool and calculating while Sheriff Glover is downright lazy and serves to highlight how good Elle and Todd are at their jobs.

To add to all the other good characteristics of the book are the festive feel of Christmas and references to holiday fare. BACKCOUNTRY COVER-UP is my favorite of Ms. Wheatley’s books to date. I highly recommend it. For fans of romantic suspense, this is the perfect book for those lazy wintry nights. Be sure to get your copy."

Thanks for stopping by, friends, and I'll see you next month for the cover reveal of my upcoming release, DANGER IN THE NEVADA DESERT! xo
