Happy August, friends! I hope your summer is going well and it's been positive and productive thus far. Mine has been busy! From meeting deadlines to enjoying some sun, I must say I'm making the most of it. Keep reading for deets on the great time I had during a recent book signing!
"It takes the world to make a sweater." That was the theme of this year's Chicago Yarn Crawl. In case you hadn't heard, this annual celebration of Chicagoland's local yarn shops took place in late July. My Alpha Kappa Alpha Soror and great friend, Kamaca Champion, owns and operates Miss Purl, an illustrious yarn store/crafting space located on Chicago's south side. Kamaca participated in this year's crawl, with patrons coming to visit from California, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and everywhere in between. I was lucky enough to participate in the event as Kamaca invited me to come out and sign books, meet the crafters and chat all things writing.
I met some truly wonderful people who not only love to knit, but love to read as well. Creativity goes hand-in-hand, and while I enjoyed discussing the art of creating such amazing pieces (from scarves and mittens to shawls and sweaters), the knitters loved hearing about my writing process and various influences. One patron even shared stories about the YA fantasy her husband is currently working on, which he writes by hand (*gasp*) then transfers to the computer, all while their frisky cat uses his notebooks as a playground lol.
Here are a few pics of customers with their books. During the signing, I shared deets on my inspiration while writing Devon's glow-up story in She Gets What She Wants, how exciting it was to publish my first Harlequin Intrigue, Cold Case, True Crime, and the thrill of penning Bayou Christmas Disappearance, which is a suspenseful holiday-themed enemies-to-lovers story.
In addition to chatting about knitting and books, we listened to some great music, ate delicious desserts from The Drip Bakery by Chef Ced, and had an all-around fantastic afternoon. If you haven't visited, I'd encourage you to stop by Miss Purl for the excellent crafting supplies, artfully curated classes and exhilarating vibes. All skill levels are welcome, so whether you're a beginner or advanced knitter, there is a spot for you. And when you visit, be sure to tell Miss Purl that I sent you!
As always, thanks so much for stopping by. I'll see you next month, when we'll be celebrating the release of Book 4 in my West Coast Crime Story series, Hometown Homicide. Until then, enjoy these last days of summer!
